Overview
Sanjay Gandhi National Park is an 87 sq km forest inside Mumbai city, a rare urban national park. It’s a full ecosystem with leopards, deer, monkeys, 250+ bird species, reptiles, and butterflies. The 2,000-year-old Kanheri Caves add history to the park. Besides the Lion & Tiger Safari, SGNP has trails, boating, cycling, and the Van Rani toy train. Entry to SGNP is separate from safari tickets, and many areas can be explored without it. It works as Mumbai’s green lung, helping control pollution and climate. The Maharashtra Forest Department manages it under wildlife protection laws. Timings are 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM; safari is closed Monday but park stays open. SGNP is the entire forest area, while the safari is just one attraction. It protects nature, history, and biodiversity together.
