Overview
Diveagar Beach is in Shrivardhan taluka, Raigad, about 170 km from Mumbai. “Diveagar” means “God’s garden” in Marathi, settled by Peshwa-era Brahmins. It hit headlines in 1997 when a 500-year-old gold Ganesh idol was found buried here. The Suvarna Ganesh Temple was built, but the idol was stolen in 2012; the temple still draws crowds. The beach has soft white sand, calm waves, and Suru tree plantations along the shore. Unlike Alibaug, it’s not commercial — homestays and Malvani food dominate. Locals live on fishing, beetle-nut farms, and tourism. The water is clean and safe for swimming, making it family-friendly. Horse-cart rides on the beach are a Diveagar specialty. Nearby Harihareshwar and Shrivardhan add temple tourism. Best time is Oct–Feb for cool weather and clear skies. Diveagar is Konkan’s quiet, clean alternative to crowded beaches.
