Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga

Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga

2 Days

Overview

Trimbakeshwar Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, located at the source of the Godavari River near Nashik, Maharashtra. The present temple was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao in 1755–1786 using black stone in Hemadpanthi style. The unique lingam has three small pillars representing Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva — the only Jyotirlinga with the trinity. It lies in a depression and is usually covered with a jeweled crown, seen only on Mondays. The temple is linked to Sage Gautama, who performed penance here to bring Ganga as Godavari. Kumbh Mela’s Sinhastha Parva is held here every 12 years, attracting millions. Narayan Nagbali, Kalsarpa Shanti, and Tripindi rituals are famous and performed only here. Surrounded by Brahmagiri hills, the site is scenic and spiritually powerful. The temple has a sacred kunda called Kushavarta, where devotees take a holy dip. Trimbakeshwar is considered highly potent for pitru dosha remedies.
