Overview
Parli Vaijnath Temple in Beed, Maharashtra, is also counted as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, though some lists vary. Built by Ahilyabai Holkar in the 18th century on a hillock, it is made of stone with a tall deepmala or lamp tower. The name Vaijnath means “Lord of Physicians,” as Shiva is believed to cure ailments here. Legend says the temple was built from a single stone and that nectar from Samudra Manthan fell here. The lingam is swayambhu and the temple has a large courtyard with smaller shrines. Mahashivratri and Vijayadashami see massive yatras with palkhis from villages. The temple is known for its Veerashaiva traditions and has a separate shrine for Goddess Parvati. It is said that visiting Parli after Aundha Nagnath completes the pilgrimage. The hilltop location offers views of the surrounding Marathwada plains. Parli Vaijnath is a center of faith for health and healing.
