Siddhivinayak Temple

Siddhivinayak Temple

1 Day

Overview

Shree Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi is Mumbai’s most famous Ganesha temple, built in 1801 by Laxman Vithu and Deubai Patil. The original structure was a small 3.6 sq meter brick shrine funded by a childless woman so other women would not remain barren. The current six-story temple with a gold-plated dome was completed in 1994. The idol is unique — Ganesha’s trunk curves right, with Riddhi and Siddhi goddesses on either side. The temple has a small mandap with the main shrine and one of the richest trusts in Mumbai. Tuesdays see over 1 lakh devotees, with celebrities and politicians visiting regularly. Offerings include coconuts, durva grass, and modaks, with Angarak Sankashti being especially important. The inner sanctum roof is plated with gold donated by devotees. Siddhivinayak is believed to grant wishes and remove obstacles for all who pray sincerely. It stands as Mumbai’s spiritual heart.
